Kumho recognised for CO2 reductions
Kumho Tires has gained “official recognition” for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 13,339 tons over the past five years. In a press statement, the Korean company’s Australian subsidiary reported that Kumho Tires achieved this reduction through upgrading production facilities and adopting renewable energy strategies while at the same time working to develop and manufacture more efficient fuel saving tyres. Kumho’s CO2 reduction plan was launched in 2005 by Kemco (Korea Energy Management Corporation) and was devised in response to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
According to David Basha, national marketing and training manager at Kumho Tyre Australia, Kumho is not only developing eco-friendly products but also focusing on ways to reduce emissions and environmental concerns in the manufacturing process. “Kumho Tyres is making efforts to reduce its impact on the environment on a global and local level and this is further proof of Kumho’s commitment to sustainable practices,” he said. “Consumers can be assured when buying Kumho that we are adopting new technologies and processes to make our tyres more eco-friendly. Upgrades to our production facilities, low rolling resistance products and initiatives like our agreement with Greenfleet, are proof that Kumho is a brand that is actively taking steps to reduce its carbon footprint.”
In Australia, Kumho has formed an alliance with eco-motoring group Greenfleet which sees a tree planted for every set of Ecowing tyres sold in Australia. “Kumho understands the impact of climate change and the need to find environmentally friendly practices,” Basha added.
