Toyo launches flagship eco tyre
Next week Toyo Tire & Rubber will release its Nanoenergy 0, or Zero, for sale in Japan, complete with a very favourable label rating. The new tyre has been given the highest grade possible for rolling resistance and wet grip performance under the voluntary labelling system established by JATMA, the Japan Automobile Tyre Manufacturers Association. Toyo claims the Nanoenergy Zero is the first tyre in Japan to achieve an “AAA” grade for rolling resistance and an “a” for wet grip.
The new tyre uses Toyo’s proprietary ‘Nano Balance Technology’ material design technology, which the manufacturer describes as being a technology for managing the development of rubber materials at the nano level. At present, Toyo is working to bring a full line of energy efficient tyres based on this technology to market; the first product in the portfolio is the Nanoenergy 1, introduced in February 2012 and the first tyre to achieve an “AAA” rating for rolling resistance and “b” for wet grip performance on the JATMA label. This was followed by the Nanoenergy 2, which was given an “AAA” rating for rolling resistance and a “c” for wet grip performance. Toyo plans an October European launch for both of these products.
The Nanoenergy Zero goes on sale in Japan as the flagship product in the Nanoenergy line-up, and will initially be available in size 195/65R15 91H
