Point S partners Däckarna in Sweden
Well known retail chain and buying cooperative Point S has partnered with Däckarna in Sweden to complete its collection of Scandinavian tyre operations. Founded in the 1970s Däckarna is believed to be the first purchasing group aimed at unifying the strength of independent dealers. More than 40 years later the group has 39 branches in its partnership, collectively occupying a 5 per cent market share.
Now that the organisation has joined Point S the goal is to increase this figure to 80 points of sale in Sweden. This also means that, with comparable operations in Denmark, Finland and Norway Point S maintains a presence across the Scandinavian region, with 160 points of sale in total at the moment.
Speaking at a press conference during the course of the Reifen 2012, exhibition in Essen Germany, Fabien Bouquet, international operations director at point S Development, explained that Point S is expanding even beyond Europe. With a presence in Turkey and South Africa already in place the company is now looking further afield, while maintaining ambitious growth goals within Europe. While Bouquet left the question of where next unanswered, the word’s “strategic” and “emerging” market were mentioned, although Tyres & Accessories understands that this does not refer to the usual suspects of China and India.
Point S reports that its collective national networks sell some 13 million tyres, with sales of 2.5 billion euros across Europe alone. Including operations outside Europe Point S’s reach extends across 27 countries and 2575 individual points of sale.
