Mild to wild: something for every driver in Yokohama’s range
When it comes to high performance tyres, Japanese manufacturer Yokohama says there’s something for everyone in its range. From motorsport-bred circuit tyres to safety and confidence-inspiring replacement road tyres, Yokohama offers a range that caters for drivers from mild to wild.
The S.drive, for example, is the sports model in the ‘.drive’ range and is designed as a driver-orientated replacement tyre. Yokohama comments that the S.drive encompasses its reputation for safety and performance, offering motorists a sporty drive, along with low road noise and wear as well as high grip in both wet and dry conditions.
The Yokohama Advan Sport is the premium tyre in the flagship Advan range and has been selected by manufacturers such as Porsche, Bentley, Audi and Mercedes-Benz as original equipment across some of the marques’ most rewarding drivers’ cars. The design of the Advan Sport, the tyre maker says, endows any car with exceptional straight-line stability and low noise, while the asymmetric tread pattern is intended to deliver excellent cornering grip in all conditions and the advanced construction provides instant reactions to driver commands.
Taking things one step further is the Advan Neova AD08, Yokohama’s self-proclaimed ‘strongest road tyre’. This takes much of its development from Yokohama’s decades of motorsport involvement, including supplying control tyres to the FIA World Touring Car Championship since 2006. Its construction and compound give it levels of grip and response that Yokohama says are comparable with racing slick tyres, but with the added benefit of safety and confidence in all conditions. It is fully road-legal, making it an attractive choice for uncompromising performance drivers.
Next in Yokohama’s high performance line-up is a tyre the Japanese company calls its ultimate no frills, no compromise performance tyre, the Advan A048. This is a tyre Yokohama comments is widely-regarded as the track day tyre of choice for discerning drivers looking for the ultimate in performance. The Advan A048 has a semi-slick pattern and with a compound said to be directly developed from race tyres; a pairing Yokohama says gives the “definitive combination of grip and response.” The Advan A048 been adopted as original equipment fitment by several manufacturers, including Lotus Cars, on their ultra-high performance and track-day variants.
The Advan A048 has the added benefit of being fully E-marked and therefore road legal, hence cars fitted with it can be driven to and from the circuit, negating the need for additional wheels, tyres or a trailer.
