3rd-placed Infinity AMD has “high expectations” for weekend drifting
The 2012 Maxxis British Drift Championship stages its second round at the Norfolk Arena from 1-3 June 2012, and the Infinity Tyres-sponsored Acorn Motorsport Division says it has high expectations of building on its successes at round one. The team was very satisfied with the first round performance of its two competing drivers, which meant that they go into round two lying in third place in the overall standings. One of the team’s drivers, Ian Waddington is returning from his honeymoon in Hawaii to be at the wheel of his Nissan 200sc S13.
AMD report that they have had very positive feedback from competitors and drift fans alike. Team manager, Scott Brandon, commented: “We put as much emphasis on a car’s appearance as on its performance. Under the bonnet, our cars are incredible and all the work is carried out ‘in-house’ with great care and dedication by the drivers and mechanics.” According to Brandon, the team’s morale is “very high” and “Infinity Tyres make a tremendous contribution to the team’s success by supplying tyres that maximise the cars’ performance.”
Waddington added: “This year has been a test so far as my own car has had some engine trouble after a brand new build. I am fortunate that we have Scott Brandon’s car –which was built in just four days– as a spare. The car was fantastic to drive and got me a 4th place finish in Round 1. That being said, my own car will be ready for Round 3 at the end of June and we hope it will perform to our expectations.”
Fellow AMD driver Mark Lappage said: “Round 2 cannot come soon enough and we are confident that we have the people, cars and tyres to produce some good results once again.”
Nigel Hampson, Infinity’s head of Business Development, said that the team “is fantastic to work with and we are very proud of all their efforts so far. We’re 100 per cent behind Acorn Motorsport and the feedback we received on the Infinity Tyres’ performance in round one was extremely positive. Infinity will continue to give its full support throughout the season and expectations are high having seen at first hand their enthusiasm and drifting skill”.
The British Drift Championship’s round three will be held on 29-30 June and 1 July at the Teeside Autodrome.
