Continental to strengthen Conti360° fleet service
Conti is working to enhance the efficiency of the roadside breakdown service it provides to commercial vehicle operators and hauliers through its Conti360° fleet service network. The manufacturer reports the development of a series of bespoke roadside training courses for its Conti360° network partners, which it believes will help raise safety standards among tyre fitters and promote best practice in attending roadside breakdowns. The three levels of training course are designed to equip the Conti360° network with improved tyre fitting expertise and allow its partners to gain the industry-approved NTDA REACT Roadside Breakdown Licence, which is now mandatory for all NTDA members engaged in roadside maintenance or repairs.
“With more than a quarter of HGV breakdowns on England’s motorways recorded as being tyre related , improving the safety of tyre fitters working by the roadside is of paramount importance,” explains Tracey Hyem, commercial marketing manager, Continental Tyres.
“We are committed to raising safety standards throughout the industry and have designed our new roadside breakdown training courses to ensure our accredited network of partners operate according to the highest safety standards. Our aim is to reinforce the support we offer to our network while continually enhancing the quality and efficiency of the service we provide to our customers.”
The three roadside courses, tailored to suit different levels of experience, will be held at the manufacturer’s Rugby training venue, although on-site training is also available on request. The first of the modules, the Roadside Breakdown Refresher is aimed at tyre technicians with an existing, NTDA-recognised qualification, while the Roadside Breakdown Condensed and Roadside Breakdown Full courses are suitable for technicians with at least one month’s experience of attending roadside breakdowns.
The refresher and condensed courses are both one-day long, minimising the time spent away from work, while the full course runs across three days. All courses pave the way for tyre fitters to apply for the NTDA REACT Roadside Breakdown Licence, while the more in-depth options also offer the opportunity to gain a City and Guilds qualification.
“We welcome Continental’s move to actively help improve safety standards among tyre fitters,” comments Richard Edy, Chairman, NTDA. “Fitting tyres by the roadside or on the motorway, particularly commercial vehicle tyres, is highly challenging and potentially dangerous. The resultant roadside injuries and fatalities have long been a cause for concern. By ensuring that its network partners are fully trained in best practice and understand how to fit tyres safely and efficiently, Continental is making a significant contribution to lowering the risk of injury to fitters and drivers.”
The new roadside breakdown training from Continental is the latest in a series of innovations and efficiency improvement measures from the manufacturer. Conti360° Fleet Services are available in the UK and Ireland as well as 14 key transport markets across Europe, while Continental’s breakdown service partners operate in 37 European countries.
