Vipal to showcase ECO fuel efficiency at Reifen
In addition to three new designs of pre-cured treads, Brazilian retreading materials manufacturer has confirmed that it will display its ECO line of precured treads. The company, which has three distribution centres in Europe, says the ECO treads provide decreased fuel consumption and a increased longevity.
In a partnership between Vipal and a retreading company of North Carolina, the company says fuel savings were shown – sometimes exceeding 10 per cent – in tests performed in nine fleets of school buses.
The company also says the ECO treads’ efficiency was observed in Brazil, with one of the largest carriers in Latin America, Dalçoquio. The integrated logistics company has a modern fleet of trucks transporting liquid or dry cargo, with the two major costs being diesel and tyre consumption. The operational director of the company, Emílio Dalçoquio, said that it decreased its tyre-based expenditure when the company adopted the retreaded tires with Vipal’s ECO precured treads.
Moreover, spending less fuel was essential for Dalçoquio to opt for the definitive use of the product. In a test performed by the company, a truck that travelled 125,000km on ECO treads saved 3.4 per cent of fuel consumption when compared to the standard product that had been previously used.
Another product in Vipal’s ECO range to be displayed at Reifen 2012 will be the tyre tube repair product. ECO patches contain raw materials from renewable sources, such as natural rubber, plant origin plasticizers and silica of rice skins. Some items in the line are produced with 90 per cent of green raw materials.
Vipal had previously announced that it would bring its line of exclusive precured treads: DV-RT2, ideal for use at the drive axles in road transport; DV-UM3, for use in urban transport; and DV-RM, a lighter precured tread for the road segment, which enables greater preservation of the carcass.
