Toyo’s Proxes range focuses on high performance sector
Toyo quips that it already has many car-control world records under its ‘steel belt’, and thus the high performance Proxes range needs little introduction to the discerning enthusiast. The name is solely linked to the high performance segment, and Toyo says the Proxes is widely considered to be one of the finest wet-weather and most consistent dry handling tyres available, a tyre chosen by many car manufacturers as an original equipment fitment. German manufacturer Audi, for example, has chosen Toyo Tires to be fitted to several vehicles; the S6, the RS5, the TT, TT-S and TT-RS. Mazda, Toyota and Westfield, to name a few more, are also rolling out of their factories on Proxes OE fitments.
Toyo comments that with its obsession for quality, evident in every tyre, and thanks to the diverse range of fitments available, there’s a Proxes for every driver. The tyre maker adds that it has employed the latest technologies to introduce new compounds and casing designs tin the newest additions to its Proxes range; the Proxes T1 Sport, C1S and the T1 Sport SUV.
Offering what Toyo refers to as ultimate handling and grip in both wet and dry conditions, the Proxes T1 Sport is described as being supremely stable, even at fast motorway speeds, and complementary to the handling of the most prestigious sports saloons and coupes. The tyre has an asymmetric tread pattern with a multi-compound concept which Toyo says is engineered for exceptional braking performance, aquaplaning and for superb cornering performance. A different pattern is used for the larger sizes; a wider rib and block is applied to the 285 section-width or wider to gain enough cornering power and traction. The T1 Sport is available in sizes ranging from 16 to 19-inches.
Boasting a unique performance compound and tread pattern, the T1-R surpasses, reports Toyo, all previous benchmarks in wet and dry handling. The V-shaped grooves are designed to efficiently pump water away, allowing the rubber to grip the tarmac. Bound by a circumferential groove, turn-in is said to be razor sharp whilst still allowing the tyre to run quieter and last longer. The Proxes T1-R is available in a range of popular sizes from 14-inches right up 22-inches.
Toyo says many have commented on the attractiveness of the Proxes 4 case design, but the tyre maker reassures that this particular model backs up its good looks with a phenomenal all-round performance. “Despite high grip levels and low cabin noise, the Proxes 4 balances this with long life and accomplished wet-weather grip,” comments Toyo. Already a favourite in the tuning market, where ‘show’ matter just as much as ‘go’, The Proxes 4 offers most popular ‘tuner’ sizes from 15 right up to a narrow car fitment 20-inch.
The Proxes T1 Sport SUV is the newest addition to the Proxes family. Explaining where it fits into the Proxes portfolio, Toyo comments that 4x4s SUV’s today have very powerful engines and excellent handling, and impose immense additional forces on tyres – even though drivers still expect similar performance to what a saloon car offers. With the promise of excellent highway speed stability and precise handling on wet or dry roads, the Proxes T1 Sport SUV is designed to answer the need for an ultra high performance tyre for executive 4x4s. It is available in sizes from 17 to 20-inches.
Another 4×4 performance tyre in the Proxes stable is the Proxes S/T. “With most off roaders never venturing off road and preferring to sport a set of stylish aftermarket alloys, the Proxes S/T offers the high-speed rated solution,” the tyre maker comments. It describes the Proxes S/T as secure and stable on wet or dry roads – and backs up its performance credentials by noting that the tyre broke its own record of ‘Fastest SUV in the World’ 191.65mph on Sportec’s modified Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The Proxes S/T is available from 16-inch sizes up to 23-inches.
Toyo says the Proxes R888 gives “slick performance in a road legal package.” It calls the R888 its most sophisticated track day tyre and says that, even after a race-day deluge, it can be relied upon to safely get you home on normal roads. The medium hard compound is designed to provide a balance of tenacious grip – Toyo says it is way beyond a normal road tyre – and reassuring wet weather traction. The range covers many sizes from 13 to 20-inches.
For the occasional motorsport competitor who requires a less aggressive tyre than the Proxes R888, Toyo offers the Proxes R1R. It calls the R1R an uncompromising extreme performance road tyre and says it is ideal for track days as it combines a special high-grip rubber compound and an increased contact patch area with a race-inspired construction. This, says Toyo, provides superior handling, high-speed stability and outstanding grip, even in the wet and great traction on both the street and track which means it is truly at home when being pushed to its limits. The Proxes R1R is available in sizes from 15 to 18-inches.
Comfort options:
The Proxes C1S is Toyo’s new performance tyre for premium and luxury cars. The asymmetric tread is designed to provide a quiet and comfortable ride and superb handling performance. This tyre, says Toyo, has great high speed stability, good water dispersal and noise reduction resulting in its optimal quality and performance, ensuring it meets the requirements of the premium vehicles it is engineered for. The C1S also benefits from having an optimised profile for low rolling resistance. The range is available from 15 to 20-inch sizes.
Last but not least, the Proxes CF1 was designed to provide a “perfect equilibrium between handling, ride, comfort, mileage and value.” This comfort tyre was developed for modern high performance family saloons and is said to deliver optimum braking performance in the wet and great dry handling. The Proxes CF1 covers most realistic OE wheel and tyre sizes, even up to 245/40/17, and ranges from 13 to 18-inch rim diameters.
