New Himalaya range expands Federal’s winter portfolio
When Federal Tyre returns to the Reifen show in Germany this June, the Taiwanese manufacturer will showcase its Himalaya ICEO winter tyre, which is aimed at consumers in Northern Europe, Russia/CIS and Japan. Sizes initially on offer range from 155/70R13 through to 245/45R18, and Federal says the range will continue to be expanded throughout the rest of the year.
The Himalaya ICEO, says Federal, employs high distribution silica and advanced compounding deliver the grip needed to face harsh road conditions in extreme temperatures. The tyre’s tread contains multiple three-dimensional tread sipes, which are intended to ensure good winter traction while actively removing water and slush from between the tyre and the road surface. In the tread’s centre block, knife-edge-thin grooves cut into the tread elements and lock together to enhance grip in the cold and in rapidly changing weather. Furthermore, Federal says the sipes in the shoulder area are there to provide a solid footprint for excellent handling in snow and icy conditions. Three different circumferential tread pitches help to reduce vibrations and road noise. A larger contact patch of wide grooves delivers improved pressure distribution, the tyre maker adds, and this facilitates a smooth transition when entering a corner.
