DAF selects Goodyear low rolling resistance tyres
DAF has selected Goodyear Marathon + low rolling resistance tyres for standard equipment on its latest Advanced Transport Efficiency (ATe) trucks. According to the tyre manufacturer, the news comes as a result of the partnership between the two companies aimed at providing vehicles with optimized fuel consumption, yet with no compromise on other performance areas.
The new CF85 and XF105 ATe tractors form part of the DAF Advanced Transport Efficiency program, which comprises a complete package of intelligent solutions that further reduce fuel consumption and emissions as well as improve efficiency. Part of the measures taken in the development of the program relates to optimized aerodynamics. This includes a package of roof spoilers and side fenders, combined with side skirts. In addition to this, Goodyear Marathon LHS II + steer tyres and Marathon LHD II + drive tyres are fitted as standard in size 315/70R22.5.
The Marathon + is Goodyear’s latest generation long haul tyre range. Tests carried by TÜV Süd Automotive, comparing the performance of the new Marathon + tyres with three main competitors suggest that this tyre’s fuel-saving and wet grip are both better than its competitors, without compromising mileage.
Key to the excellent rolling resistance performance level of the Marathon + – which is 7 per cent better than its predecessor in this respect – is an innovative tread compound enhancement called Silefex, developed in the Goodyear Innovation Center Luxembourg and featuring an optimized blend of silica fillers and premium natural rubber.
“It is very rewarding when our achievement in reducing fuel consumption is recognised by an Original Equipment Manufacturer in this way,” said Boris Stevanovic, marketing director Truck Tyres for Goodyear Dunlop Tyres Europe. “The independent tests TÜV Süd Automotive has carried out show how outstanding the performance of the Goodyear Marathon + range is with regard to fuel-saving and also its wet braking performance.”
