ATS-E wins major DSV trailer tyre deal
ATS Euromaster will service tyres fitted to global transport and logistics specialist DSV’s 7,000-strong European trailer fleet, having secured the major three year contract. ATS Euromaster’s team of mobile technicians will provide complete tyre maintenance, comprising routine tyre safety inspections and any follow-up service work, to up to 1,000 DSV trailers transiting through the UK every day. The company says it will be fitting “premium remould tyres”, supplied predominantly by Vacu-Lug and Encore, to the trailers, replacing a former Bridgestone policy.
Tyres will be serviced at DSV’s 19-strong network of UK depots, with ATS-E’s mobile teams also inspecting tyres at freight terminals, where the majority of DSV trailers arrive into and depart out of the UK by sea.
DSV will also benefit from direct access to ATS-E’s “roadside rapid response” service, which utilises the largest fleet of mobile tyre fitting vans in the UK. The company guarantees prompt tyre-related breakdown assistance anywhere in the UK, at any time.
Flemming Steiness, deputy manager of Denmark-based DSV Road Holding A/S, says: “We were clear from day one of this tender that we were seeking a service provider which was prepared to work in partnership with us. Close co-operation with suppliers is essential when you operate one of the largest and most efficient road transport fleets in Europe.”
The DSV trailer fleet includes a mix of 6,500 tri-axle curtainside and mega trailers, together with 500 temperature controlled box vans. The fleet typically unloads in the UK and Ireland, before being re-loaded and travelling as far afield as mainland Europe, Scandinavia and Russia.
“Selecting the right tyre service provider is critical to our operation,” adds Steiness. “We chose to put ATS Euromaster to the test on the back of their proven expertise in this sector, value for money proposition and ability to commit to a three year partnership.
“We were equally impressed by ATS Euromaster’s National Business Development team. You don’t award contracts of this scale without having full confidence in the people who will be managing your service delivery on a day-to-day basis,” he concludes.
DSV operates a steadily growing fleet, supported by acquisitions which in recent years have included Frans Maas (2006), Roadferry (2008) and ABX Logistics (2008). The company offers door-to-door transport of full loads, part loads and mixed cargo throughout Europe, utilising more than 17,000 trucks. Key markets for DSV’s road-based fleet include the transport of industrial goods, textiles, automotive components, hi-tech products, pharmaceuticals and fast moving consumer goods.
