ISO accreditation for Yokohama tyre testing lab
Yokohama Rubber shares that it has obtained ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation for four types of tyre testing. ISO/IEC 17025 is the main international standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories, and accreditation means Yokohama’s test data is internationally recognised as being based on proper testing techniques. Accreditation also enables the company to use the official ISO/IEC 17025 logo on its published test reports. Yokohama Rubber obtained accreditation after being examined by Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation, Inc. (PJLA).
The four types of tyre testing now accredited are: Marking requirements, dimensional requirements, and load/speed performance tests for passenger car tyres (maximum speed more than 270 km/h); Rolling resistance testing of passenger car and light truck tyres (load index of 104 or less) using the force method; Adhesion performance testing for passenger car tyres on wet surfaces; Coast-by testing for measuring rolling tyre noise emissions for passenger car and commercial vehicle tyres with a load index of 121 or less.
ISO/IEC 17025 addresses the technological capabilities of an organisation, such as quality management, organisation, equipment, environmental conditions and staff skills, necessary for specific testing and calibration. Yokohama notes that accreditation is essential in order for test data to be mutually accepted in different countries, and says that it intends to “further expand the scope of accreditation, aiming at providing high-level, reliable, globally compatible test data.”
