Dunlop demos sport-derived tyres at Rockingham
Dunlop held a showcase of its latest passenger car and motorcycle products, the Sport Maxx RT and the Dunlop RoadSmart II, at the Rockingham Circuit on Tuesday 17 April. 21 sports cars and 32 high performance motorcycles were gathered to demonstrate the tyres a series of workshops and hands-on demonstrations to key customers at the Northampton Circuit.
The Sport Maxx RT has been developed with racing technology integrated into the tyre’s design and development. The tyre delivers enhanced grip on the road thanks to its motorsport derived compound, which provides increased adaptability on both dry and wet surfaces. The tyre also delivers a high handling stability, built on its large outer shoulder block, increasing the contact area when cornering, especially at high speeds. Last year’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship winner, Matt Neal and team-mate Gordon Shedden of Honda Yuasa Racing demonstrated these technologies on a hot lap on the National Circuit on Dunlop’s purpose-built BTCC motorsport tyres.
Andy Marfleet, Dunlop brand manager said: “In Motorsport, we are constantly innovating and developing new technologies as we strive for victory. It is this same mindset that allows us to bring new innovations to the road tyre market.
“Dunlop road tyres are renowned for their performance, responsiveness, quality and steering feel. Many of these technologies, including our compound and construction design, are inspired by the learnings from our racing programme.”
The new RoadSmart II is an evolution of the RoadSmart, using race-proven Jointless Belt and Multi-Tread technologies. Mark Sears, Dunlop’s product support manager for motorcycle, commented: “Dunlop’s new RoadSmart II naturally meets the demanding technical requirements of the world’s most powerful sport tourers, roadsters and naked bikes.
“However, an equally important part of RoadSmart II’s mission statement is to meet the needs of riders. With that objective in mind, RoadSmart II utilises advanced Dunlop technology to deliver an exceptionally well-rounded performance package combining lasting, durable performance over high mileages with the standards of wet and dry grip, stability and handling.
Marfleet concluded: “The atmosphere at Rockingham was absolutely fantastic and the feedback that we have received from our customers tells us that a good time was to be had for all.
“Fusing the launch of motorcycle and consumer products meant that our customers were exposed to a different part of the Dunlop brand and watching the various high performance vehicles speeding around the track couldn’t fail to impress.”
