Cooper Findlay union re-elects leader
After leading his union through a brutal three-month lockout at Cooper Tire & Rubber Co.'s Findlay, Ohio, tyre plant, USW Local 207 president Rod Nelson has been re-elected to his post, Tire Review reports. Nelson received 311 votes from Local 207 membership, according to the Findlay Courier, or nearly 47 per cent of all votes cast. Two opponents for the three-year term received 186 and 167 votes, respectively.
For Nelson, this will be his third term as head of the local. The lockout ended on 27 February when the union voted 627 to 321 to accept the tyre-maker’s five-year contract offer. It began after Local 207 members on 28 November, 2011, overwhelmingly voted down a tentative contract that the union negotiating team recommended.
