Bridgestone CAIS wins Spanish safety award
Bridgestone’s new Contact Area Information Sensing technology (CAIS) has won an industry award for the second time in as many months. Spain’s leading economic and financial magazine, Actualidad Económica has selected Bridgestone’s CAIS safety technology as one of the “100 Best Ideas of the Year” in the automotive category.
According to the organisers, the Actualidad Económica awards are a programme that recognizes the most innovative and useful products and services in various sectors. The jury of experts selected CAIS technology amongst the winning ideas for 2011 in view of its “great contribution to road safety”. Results were published in the magazine’s first edition of April 2012 and the awards will be presented at a special ceremony in the near future.
“This is an important achievement for Bridgestone’s innovative CAIS state-of-the-road technology; Actualidad Económica has a lot of credibility in Spain” said Juan Jose Lillo, managing director of Bridgestone Spain.
The CAIS system provides drivers with real-time information on the road surface condition via a sensor located inside the tyre tread. Capable of sensing instantaneous vibration input data and digitizing it using in-vehicle analysis equipment, this new technology classifies the current state of the road surface into seven conditions, ranging from the degree of wetness to type of wintry conditions. The information is then transmitted directly to the driver through an in-car display.
In February 2012, Bridgestone CAIS technology also won the “Tire Technology of the Year Award” organized by Tire Technology International magazine, one of the world’s most well known publications dedicated to tyre technology, design and manufacturing.
