Swedish touring championship to run on Hankook tyres
Hankook has signed on as official tyre supplier to the Swedish TTA – Racing Elite League (Elitserien i Racing) touring car championship, and will provide competitors with its Ventus F200 slick and Z207 rain tyre for each of the coming season’s eight races. Announcing the deal, Hee-Se Ahn, Hankook Tire vice-president for Marketing & Sales in Europe, stated “we are truly excited about our new partnership with the TTA. With this partnership we are taking a significant next step in our European motorsports engagement as it is the first time we are the exclusive tyre supplier to a racing series in the Scandic markets. The TTA’s approach to motorsport of constant refinement of their cars with innovative materials and designs is the type of racing that perfectly matches our company motto 'Driving Emotion'.”
“We are proud to start the cooperation with Hankook,” added Jan “Flash” Nilsson, TTA representative and driver for Flash Engineering, one of the teams competing in the Swedish series. “They provide us with an amazing racing tyre that has demonstrated impressive performance both during our test sessions and in various other racing series. The Hankook tyres enable drivers to push hard even in long races and provide us with a high level of grip that opens up for more overtaking opportunities which will guarantee many spectacular motorsports moments during the 2012 TTA season.”
The TTA has already gained experience with Hankook tyres; the new TTA prototype car was fitted with the Korean tyre maker’s competition slicks during successful pre-season test sessions. Hankook’s racing tyres are perhaps best known through their use in the DTM series, which Hankook began supplying last year. Two-time DTM champion, Swedish driver Mattias Ekström, commented that “Hankook tyres have worked really well in the DTM. They have always fully convinced me even in highly demanding conditions. Very importantly they have been able to demonstrate high-end performance both during practice, qualifying and races as they delivered a constant high level of grip throughout each entire race weekend. Being able to rely on a tyre is essential for drivers. Therefore I am looking forward to follow the TTA 2012 championship on Hankook tyres, as I am sure they will perfectly fit to both the racing cars as well as the Swedish racing tracks.”
