Rema Tip Top launches Alligator TPMS service system
With TPMS becoming mandatory on new car models this year, Rema Tip Top Automotive believes understanding tyre pressure technology is critical to tyre businesses.
Referring to it as, “one of the most topical and important issues in the automotive industry at this time”, company representatives pointed out the environmental and safety benefits of effective tyre maintenance through TPMS. Optimised fuel consumption and reduced tyre wear, the company suggests, can be seen as great financial incentives for any customer wishing to adopt such a system, but crucially – the say – the road safety benefits for the customer and other road users must be treated with equal regard.
Since 1986, certain cars have been equipped with a TPMS. In 1999 Peugeot and Renault were on amongst the first to produce a system on a mass-produced car. Since then TPMS work has become a more common in garages. In fact, today 16 per cent of European cars have a direct or indirect TPMS system.
Rema Tip Top Automotive’s targeted solution for this market is the company’s new ‘Sensor Intelligent Technology’ TPMS program from Alligator. The new sens.it TPMS sensor provides a solution for the replacement of OE TPMS sensors for both small and large tyre shop chains. According to Rema, significant cost savings are realised both in the form of inventory reduction and time-savings during the vehicle service cycle. The strength of this technology is in its flexibility, according to the company: “Unlike other solutions the users do not have to exchange or re-stock parts as OEMs make TPMS systems changes, or stock multiple parts to cover domestic and foreign brands…”
As the world’s leading supplier of OE and Aftermarket valves Alligator has created a product where one TPMS sensor solution is used to satisfy all mechanical installations for metal clamp-In and rubber snap-in valve options. Significantly the range of TPMS valves available for different vehicle brands can be replaced by two housing designs with the same electronics.
The Alligator RS1 clamp-in valves are fitted with wheel sensors programmed to accept OEM protocol at the point of installation via Alligator’s PT1 web based programming tool. In addition to the Alligator sens.it TPMS program, REMA TIP TOP supply the Profiler TPM-II diagnostic tool for the service of OE and retrofit TPMS systems fitted to car and truck tyres. This checks sensor operation before servicing the tyres (when a vehicle is brought in for service or repair); Establishes proper operation of the TPMS system when the customer picks up the vehicle; Determines why the “Tyre Pressure” (TPMS) light turns on and ensures that sensor provides accurate pressure and temperature readings.
