NTDA appoints new chairman
The National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA) has appointed a new national chairman to its board of executive officers. Steve Callow, managing director of Callow Car Care Ltd., takes over from David White of Kwik-Fit. Callow Car Care is based in the North West and was established 40 years ago by Steve’s late father Ron. It offers fast-fit and MOT service from two centres in Merseyside and Wirral.
Another company in the group, Panther Tyres – produces taxi retreads to ECE Regulation 109. The Merseyside facility is located opposite Aintree Racecourse and land owned by the company is used as a hospitality marquee for the Grand National Meeting.
Steve Callow joined the family firm in 1993 after graduating from Leeds University with an Honours degree in engineering. As well as being a Chartered Engineer, Steve has a few more strings to his bow; he holds a City & Guilds qualification in retread processing and is a qualified MOT Inspector.
He is a past Chairman of the North West and North Wales region of the NTDA and he is a fervent believer in the effectiveness of the Association, saying: “I have always got value out of the NTDA; every meeting or event provides something of benefit and of course it is always useful to meet with colleagues from within the industry”
“It is essential to ensure that our business is keeping up to speed with advances in these areas” Steve Callow commented. He is reportedly keen to explore all aspects relating to tyre safety along with the use of the latest IT technology in selling and promoting tyres including apps and smart phones.
Other executive officers
At the NTDA meeting, it was also confirmed that Donald Carmichael, MD of McConechy’s Tyre Services Ltd would continue as national vice president and that Peter Gaster, chairman of Kings Road Tyres, would continue in the role of honorary treasurer.
