Michelin Restaurants site launched
A beta version of the Michelin Restaurants website has gone live, and the French company welcomes the involvement of online users and restaurant operators in finalising the site. Michelin explains that the http://restaurant.michelin.fr site – at present the Michelin Restaurants concept only covers France – offers a multi-criteria search engine that allows users to choose a restaurant corresponding to their desires and budget.
According to Michelin, more than 20 million French Web users visit specialised sites in search of the right restaurant every year. When fully operational, the Michelin Restaurants website will offer a broad selection of establishments corresponding to every need, desire and occasion. The search engine looks for restaurants based on their location and type of cooking, as well as the user’s budget and key words. The site also includes detailed factsheets for each restaurant, a magazine and newsletter and will soon add a mobile phone application.
The more than 4,000 restaurants recommended by the Michelin guide inspectors will be clearly identified on the website. The Michelin guide selection will still be prepared by professional inspectors, Michelin employees that dine anonymously and pay their own restaurant bills. Michelin says the guide selection will “continue to set the standard and provide the public with invaluable advice.”
Naturally, visitors to the site will be interested in reading comments from other users who have tried a particular restaurant. To ensure high-quality feedback with well-supported arguments, Web users must sign up before gaining authorisation to leave a comment; they will also be required to specify the date on which they dined in the restaurant. Their opinions will then be screened by Michelin, which will systematically exclude libellous or discriminatory remarks.
Industry professionals who apply for free membership on the Michelin Restaurants site will benefit from Michelin’s extensive online promotion capabilities. In addition, restaurant operators can subscribe to a visibility pack for 69 euros a month (excluding VAT). This service allows them to present their restaurants in more detail with, for example, a description, photo gallery, menu or message from the chef. The goal is to improve the restaurant’s visibility and recognition, thereby attracting new customers.
