Former Bridgestone researcher accused of stealing trade secrets
Ex-Bridgestone research scientist Xiaorong Wang has been indicted on charges of stealing trade secrets from the tyre maker and providing investigators with false information. Before his dismissal on 14 April 2010, Wang worked at the Bridgestone Americas Center for Research and Technology in Akron, Ohio; it is alleged that after being fired, Wang downloaded proprietary information and removed it from Bridgestone premises.
“Dr. Wang used his insider status at one of the leading tyre and rubber businesses to steal valuable trade secrets,” stated Stephen D. Anthony, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Cleveland, Ohio office. “The FBI is committed to continue working with Bridgestone as well as any other business that has been victimised by trade secret theft. Combating serious and economic national security threats will continue to be a FBI priority.”
Wang was arrested at his home and appeared before the US District Court in Akron on 22 March.
