Bridgestone launches Potenza S001 run-flat
Bridgestone has launched the newPotenza S001 RFT run-flat tyre. According the company, the S001 provides the superior driving performance of the Bridgestone Potenza S001 combined with the added safety of Bridgestone run-flat technology.
This reportedly means that the new tyre offers the comfort of normal tyres with a special run-flat construction. This higher level of comfort on the development of “heat controlling” technologies, now which in turn enable Bridgestone engineers to reduce the vertical stiffness of the Run-Flat sidewall.
Firstly, an advanced NanoPro-Tech polymer is used to improved durability by reducing heat generation caused by internal friction during tyre rotation, especially when running flat. Secondly, there is Bridgestone’s Cooling Fin technology (a unique solution that uses disturbances in the airflow created by small protrusions on the tyre surface to keep the sidewall cool). According to Bridgestone, these technologies are not systematically applied to all tyre sizes. Instead their use depends on the tyre aspect ratio and preference of individual vehicle manufacturers.
Launched in 2010, the Bridgestone Potenza S001 is Bridgestone’s flagship UHP sport tyre, designed to give the world’s most powerful sports cars exhilarating control and quick-fire response with good fuel efficiency.
The first four sizes in the replacement market will be based on 40 to 55 series aspect ratios and will be available from August 2011.
