Tyre explosion at Preston industrial unit kills man
A man has died after being injured when a heavy goods tyre exploded in Lancashire. According to BBC News reports, the incident occurred at just around 10:00am on 21 February on the industrial estate where Red Scar Tyres in Preston is based.
Local news sources report that Gary Jackson, who had worked at the company for five years, was lifting the wheel at the firm’s site on Red Scar Industrial Estate, Preston having repaired what he thought to be the damage when the tyre exploded, blowing him across the building. Jackson was pronounced dead at the Royal Preston Hospital just after 11:00, the Lancashire Evening Post reports.
Police said they would work with the Health and Safety Executive in investigating the incident at the site in Longridge Road, but were “satisfied there is no criminal element” in his death.
