NTDA, Westlake announce The Belfry as 2012 Golf Day venue
Westlake Tyres and the National Tyre Distributors Association have announced the venue for 2012’s Golf Day, which will take place on 2 August. The NTDA event, sponsored by Westlake for the second time, will take place at The Belfry Golf Club, host of four Ryder Cups, more than any other venue, and several European Tour events. Guests will play the championship Brabazon Course. Westlake and the NTDA say they want to make the event “an even greater success”, especially given that it will be held at what is one of the most famous Golf courses in the UK.
NTDA director, Richard Edy said: “To play on a course with the history and pedigree of the Belfry is every golfer’s dream and we are extremely grateful to Westlake Tyres for their sponsorship of what promises to be a truly unforgettable day for those taking part.” Edy also stated that there will be a maximum of 100 players on the day and promised to reveal more details at a future date.
Jorge Crespo, European general manager for Eskay Tyres, said that last year’s event “was a great opportunity for Westlake and the NTDA to work together because the partnership between Eskay Tyres, Westlake and the NTDA was greatly reinforced then. And proof of this is that, one year later, here we are again, at this very prestigious venue, as Mr Kandhari said we would be.”
Surender Kandhari, chairman of the Al Dobowi Group, which owns Eskay Tyres, and who on that occasion said that it was “an honour” to sponsor the NTDA and ensured that they hoped to be alongside the NTDA’s future Golf events “year after year”. Last year’s event was held on 15 September at the Oxfordshire Golf Club and was labelled “one of the best golf days ever” by John Tarbox, honorary captain of the NTDA Golf Society and ex-chairman of the NTDA, during the prize giving ceremony held after the official dinner at the Golf Club.
As the UK headquarters of the PGA and spiritual home of the Ryder Cup, The Belfry has become synonymous with golf and is described by Westlake as “a Mecca for both professional and amateur players”. It has three courses in total: The Brabazon Course, which is the main tournament course, the PGA National and the Derby course. The Professional Golfer’s Association has its headquarters at The Belfry.
