New Discoverer S/T MAXX and A/T3 tyres boost KRT’s Cooper 4×4 options
Cooper Tires has added to its line-up with the recent introduction of two new options in its popular Discoverer range; the Discoverer S/T MAXX and Discoverer A/T3. Cooper has worked closely with Kings Road Tyres, its appointed distribution partner, for more than 10 years and Tim Bader, KRT’s purchasing and marketing manager, commented that the new options are set to make a big impact in the trade:
“Cooper is a well-respected manufacturer in the 4×4 and SUV sector and the new Discoverer S/T MAXX and Discoverer A/T3 patterns will create a real buzz among stockists and end users. These tyres have already proven their qualities under extreme conditions, with the S/T MAXX competing in this year’s Dakar Rally which takes in 9,000 kilometres of the toughest terrain on the planet.”
The new Discoverer S/T MAXX replaces the successful Discoverer S/T. According to the company, Cooper’s ArmorTek3 construction gives the new tyre strong durability by delivering strength to the sidewall and tread area. In addition a uniquely-angled ply construction is said to absorb and disperse impact forces that could otherwise cause damage when travelling in harsh off-road conditions.
The large tread area is engineered to provide superior grip and the alternating rib pattern also helps with the discharge of loose stones. The design allows for the fitment of studs for extreme icy conditions. The Discoverer S/T MAXX’s design also provides good ride quality on the road, delivering comfort and confidence in equal measure. It is available in 8 sizes ranging from 16 to 18 inch rim diameters.
The second new tyre, Discoverer A/T3, is a direct replacement for the Discoverer ATR. The A/T3 uses a balanced combination of technology, compounding and design to produce a tyre that provides confident all terrain performance. Its silica tread compound aims to increase treadwear, improve wet traction and help resist cutting and chipping. While the modern tread design “significantly improves off road traction without sacrificing highway performance”, according to company representatives. The A/T3 is available in 30 SUV sizes and 32 light truck sizes ranging from 15 to 20 inch rim diameters.
“4×4 dealers also like the fact that Cooper produces a complete range of products that cover specialist ranges of tyres for heavy-duty off-roading through to top-end Sports Utility Vehicle applications, where the emphasis is more on ride comfort and on-road performance,” said Tim Bader. Examples of this are the popular Cooper Zeon 4XS for high performance SUVs and the Zeon XST-A for mid-range SUV fitments, both available from KRT.
Cooper’s continued motorsport involvement
Cooper’s aims to communicate its pedigree as a leading 4×4 and sports tyre manufacturers through its three-year partnership with the annual Rallyday event held at Castle Combe Circuit, starting from 2012, amongst a programme of support for a range of motorsport events. Cooper Tire is also the headline sponsor of the 4×4 Rally Raid area, with a dedicated mixed surface 4×4 stage, complete with challenge truck demonstrations and top-spec 4×4 machinery in action. Among the highlights will be a fleet of Qt Wildcats. White-knuckle passenger rides will be available in these powerful machines, with all proceeds going to the Race2Recovery charity, a project run by injured servicemen who are aiming to conquer the 2013 Dakar rally.
And finally in a further marketing effort, KRT reports that it will also be adding to its customer support programme for Cooper stockists with the introduction of a dedicated dealer locator website. According to the manufacturer, when it is launched this summer the site will allow end users to pinpoint their nearest Cooper dealer, helping to build the dealer-customer relationship.
