Michelin unveils dual compound scooter tyre
According to 2011 data from the European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers’ Association, the European scooter tyre market for P speed ratings or higher has grown 73 per cent over a period of six years. A large chunk of this growth equates to more scooters on the road – the ETRMA says 81 per cent of users ride their scooters every day and 78 per cent ride their scooters to work. A third of all scooter riders are also motorcyclists.
Michelin opines that today’s scooter rider is better informed and has higher expectations, including when it comes to tyres, and safety in all weather conditions is as key an issue as performance. Therefore the company has developed the world’s first tyre that integrates dual compound technology, the Power Pure SC.
The tyre utilises Michelin’s 2CT technology and the slick central portion of the tread on both the front and rear tyres puts more rubber in the area most often in contact with the ground, thereby increasing longevity. To maximise tyre life, users are also advised to comply with Michelin’s front and rear tyres’ specific fitting directions to avoid uneven wear. The tyre’s shoulders are made with softer rubber that enhances grip and thus safety. As a result, Michelin says the Power Pure SC holds the road firmly in all road conditions, even on wet, damp or slippery surfaces.
The Power Pure SC is available in a total of 19 sizes, all of which feature the “fountain” tread Michelin uses in its racing tyres. The tyre maker says its adoption enables the Power Pure SC to deliver comfort and sporty performance, thus guaranteeing unparalleled driving enjoyment.
