Hankook supplying two further touring championships
Starting in the 2012 season, Hankook Tire will serve as exclusive tyre supplier to two Italian-organised events, the Superstars International Series touring car championship and the GTSprint International Series grand touring championship. The company will provide tyres to both series within the framework of what it calls a “long-term partnership.” The tyres to be used in both championships are the Ventus F200 slick and the Z207 rain tyre.
“The extension of our motor racing commitment to Italy is a logical step for us, following our successful start to the DTM last year. Italy is a country that lives and breathes motor racing, which perfectly matches our motto ‘Driving Emotion’,” shared Hee-Se Ahn, vice-president of marketing at Hankook Tire Europe. “We are very pleased to be a partner to the (series organiser) FG Group and exclusive tyre supplier to the two internationally successful racing series, Superstars International and GTSprint International from 2012 onwards. I am absolutely certain that we will see lots of exciting races in 2012 during which we can demonstrate the high quality of our products, and we wish all teams and drivers a successful season.”
The tyre maker describes its exclusive partnership with the Italian international racing series as a “further endorsement of Hankook’s passionate commitment to motor racing.” The company began its activities in this race class last year with its supply to the DTM touring car championship as exclusive tyre partner to Audi and Mercedes.
“Being able to trust the tyres is a key factor in motor racing, particularly on challenging tracks like the ones used in the Superstars and GTSprint series. In addition, extremely powerful and heavy super sports cars are on the grid here. The weight of these fast cars combined with very powerful V8 engines is particularly challenging for the tyres,” commented Manfred Sandbichler, motor racing director at Hankook Tire Europe. “Our long years of involvement in different European racing series have proved that our racing tyres are more than able to cope with these loads, and we are greatly looking forward to our first joint racing season with the FG Group. In a motor racing-mad country like Italy we are sure to experience lots of impressive racing moments.”
The two series will be broadcast on free to air and pay television in 175 countries worldwide, with live coverage in 36 major markets.
