Hankook donates tyres to African Charity Project
Hankook Tyre UK recently supplied 12 all-terrain Dynapro MT RT03 tyres which were fitted to two Land Rover Defenders in support of the Bhubesi Pride Project. The Bhubesi Pride Project is part of an initiative which involves a team of qualified coaching staff who shall spend six months driving through tricky terrain as they visit 15 schools in 10 African countries. The highly qualified coaching team shall be using rugby as a tool to help to educate schools and communities in Africa, both empowering teachers and uniting children through sport.
The Bhubesi Pride project will see the team travel to South Africa, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia. The project is ongoing and will continue well into 2014 as part of a long-term, sustainable programme which contributes to three of the UN’s eight ‘Millennium Development Goals’, namely uniting African children through sport addressing health education and life skills, encouraging local teaching staff, providing equipment, resources and knowledge, and inspiring long-term development through the establishment and development of international school links.
Continuing the rugby theme, Hankook Tyre UK are the Elite Sponsor of the Northampton Saints Rugby Club whom also provide support to local schools and communities by offering a wide range of packages including an on-site study centre which utilises rugby as an educational tool. This link to the brand made the partnership an obvious choice for all involved.
“We were first approach by Bhubesi Pride as they were already aware of our sponsorship of the Northampton Saints Rugby Club which made us an obvious choice. We are proud to be able to support such a worthwhile initiative that shall benefit so many African communities as they use rugby to educate and empower. Hankook pride ourselves on the high quality of our products so we were delighted to supply the Bhubesi Pride team with several sets of tyres to ensure they are able to cope with the varied and complex terrains that lie ahead.” said Tony Lee, managing director of Hankook Tyre UK Ltd.
“We wish to thank Hankook for their valued support as we embark upon our journey to Africa. Our expedition vehicles must be able to cope with the ever changing road conditions as we travel through Europe and the Middle East as we edge closer to Africa itself. The Dynapro MT tyres are certainly proving both their functionality and durability so far and we have every confidence that these awesome tyres will enable us to complete every step of the journey,” said Richard Bennett, Bhubesi pride project coordinator.
