Dunlop India to “restructure” embattled Chennai plant
Dunlop India’s management plans to restructure its Ambattur, Chennai plant, currently closed after labour disputes and a worsening financial situation, under its Falcon Tyres associate company. The truck and bus tyre plant reopened in October 2009 after similar issues had forced it to halt production.
A report on the situation in The Hindu’s Business Line website quotes management at Dunlop India, saying: “We are looking at an early settlement of the discordant issues with workers of the Ambattur plant. It will be followed by a thorough restructuring of operations at the plant, which includes laying off some employees.”
