Continental takes over ContiTread marketing from Marangoni
As of the second quarter of this year Continental will assume responsibility for the marketing of its ContiTread precure treads. Previously Italy’s Marangoni group didn’t just produce these treads for the German manufacturer, it was also in charge of marketing the brand in Europe. “We successfully introduced ContiTread precure treads into the European market in 2008 through a licensing agreement with Marangoni. As of April 2012 we will begin marketing ContiTread directly through our own marketing organisation,” explained Christian Sass, director Retread Business Commercial Vehicles Tires (CVT) Continental.
The precure treads will thus be fully integrated into the ContiLifeCycle concept; according to a press statement, customers will in future deal with one single contact person on issues relating to all ContiLifeCycle modules. “With this new realignment we are continuing our long-term and good partnership with Marangoni and at the same time strengthening our respective know-how,” Sass explained. Continental states that with the entire ContiLifeCycle concept, it offers customers “an effective and sustainable service solution. ContiLifeCycle’s tailor-made customer solutions cover the entire life of a tyre, from new tyres, regrooving, casing-management and retreading.
In late November the two companies announced their intention to part ways on the manufacture and marketing of ContiTread retreading materials in North America. In a joint statement, the partners declared that in future Marangoni Tread North America would no longer produce Ringtread retreads under the new to North America ContiTread brand name. Instead it would market the tyres in the USA and Canada through its own network of partners; Continental has also, on its own, set up a tread plant in Mexico.
