Avon takes on British Hillclimb title sponsorship
Avon Tyres has signed up as title sponsor to the MSA British Hillclimb Championship, which will duly be known as the Avon Tyres MSA British Hillclimb Championship. The series, which got underway on 4 February at Leicestershire Circuit, is organised by the BARC and includes rounds at leading UK hillclimb venues, as well as Jersey and Guernsey.
As part of its commitment, the tyre maker says it has formulated a new pricing structure for its competition tyres as it wishes to attract new entry-level drivers to the championship, with a view to securing its long-term future. Under this arrangement, Avon will subsidise prices on specific hillclimb specs in size ranges relevant to the typical hillclimb competition cars and has promised to continue compound development on its hillclimb offering throughout the 2012 season.
“Across the UK and Europe, we are involved in a wide range of very high-profile, prestigious and important race series but we can’t forget the grassroots competitors, as they represent the baseline and the future of the sport,” commented Paul Coates, Avon Tyres Motorsport general manager. “That’s why we’re delighted to work with the BARC, support the Avon Tyres MSA British Hillclimb Championship and provide what incentives we can to make the series as attractive as possible to new racing drivers.”
BARC chief executive, Dennis Carter added: “It really is great to have Avon Tyres on board in supporting and helping to promote this very prestigious Championship. They have a wealth of experience in producing and supplying hillclimb tyres and we look forward to working with them.”
Avon will introduce race tyres in a selection of new sizes to suit hillclimb competitors; the company states the technological advances gained in all areas of its development programme will be transferred to hillclimb tyres, wherever relevant. It will also support the championship, its teams and drivers with marketing and local public relations campaigns.
A tyre supply and fitting service at the events will be provided by BMTR, who will also be on hand to offer competitors specialist advice on the Avon hillclimb product range.
