Yokohama to supply Irish Touring Car Championship
Yokohama will be the new control tyre supplier for the Irish Touring Car Championship or ITCC starting in the 2012 season. Touring cars have become something of a speciality for Yokohama’s motorsport activity; its Advan range is currently used as the control tyre in the FIA World Touring Car Championship as well as the Russian, Chinese and Scandinavian national iterations.
The ITCC has more than 30 cars on the grid up to four times per race day, and Yokohama says the series continues to attract both new drivers and experienced racers. The championship boasts a diverse range of cars from BMWs to Sierra Cosworths.
Further support for Yokohama’s supply deal comes from its dealers in Ireland including Murray Motorsport, based in Southern Ireland. Its head, Eoin Murray is an experienced BTCC driver, and he has expressed his pleasure that Yokohama will now be involved in the Irish national championship: “We are delighted to be involved with the ITCC and I’m confident our partnership together with Yokohama will prove successful for the series. With the use of a controlled Yokohama tyre we can expect to see close and exciting racing during the coming season.”
