Birmingham rider collects Pirelli-Blackhorse BSB prize
Birmingham motorcyclist, Mitu Rahman has won a Pirelli Yamaha YZF-R1 British Superbike ‘pace bike’ in a competition organised by the Italian tyre company and Black Horse Consumer Finance. The bike was also signed by 2011 BSB champion Tommy Hill, and comes equipped with the latest Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tyres. The bike helped Hill beat American rival Hopkins to take the series crown in the final round at Brands Hatch by 0.006 seconds.
Rahman, from Smethwick near Birmingham, was delighted to win the stunning bike in a competition at the NEC Motorcycle Live show on the Black Horse stage: “I’ve been a biker for 10 years – my first bike was a Yamaha Thundercat. I’ve always ridden Yamahas and I was actually looking around for my next model. I couldn’t believe it when I heard I’d won the YZF-R1 – it’s absolutely perfect! I took it for a ride for the first time at the weekend with a couple of friends and I was really impressed by its power – and my friends were very jealous indeed!”
Mattia Pizzi, director Pirelli Moto said: “British Superbikes is all about passion, which is why Pirelli is so involved with this form of racing. The Pirelli pace bike has lead the field of racers all year and it seems only fitting that this year’s Champion Tommy Hill should have signed the machine and also that it be awarded to such a big Yamaha fan as Mitu.”
Black Horse’s franchise development manager Dave Macey presented the bike to Mitu at his local Yamaha dealer, Streetbike. Macey said: “You couldn’t meet a nicer guy or more deserving winner than Mitu. We’re delighted that this fantastic prize has gone to someone who shares the Black Horse’s motorcycle team’s passion for biking.
“Last year, we celebrated our 90th year of providing point of sale finance to the motorcycle industry and we’re still the only provider which has a sales team dedicated to motorcycles. And as most of the team are themselves avid bikers, we understand the bike world better than anyone.”
