Starco kicks off anniversary year celebrations
On the evening of 10 December, the management and employees of Denmark’s Starco celebrated half a century in the business. The 50 year anniversary was commemorated at a function at the home of company CEO Peer Ejlersgaard and at regional Starco premises worldwide.
Addressing the global Starco team via a live video link, Ejlersgaard commented “my father established the first generation of Starco in Denmark and Scandinavia, since the 90’s I have led the second generation with the task of expanding into Europe and beyond, including the establishment of our wheel and tyre manufacturing operations in five countries worldwide. These first two generations have been managed – first by my father, then by myself – as a family business, but as we take the steps towards becoming a global company, we must recognise that the coming third generation of Starco will not be personified by a single figurehead – instead it will be a team-project, embracing the vision and talent of the entire company – the Starco generation.”
As readers of tyrepress.com and December’s Tyres & Accessories (see pages 38-40) already know, this transformation from being a family business to becoming a business family has been underway for several years and has involved the creation of an international management team and the introduction of mini-business units in each and every subsidiary around the world. As Peer Ejlersgaard said: “The strategy for the third generation of Starco will depend on the motivation, vision, knowledge and passion of all our employees, and we have created a company that can fully harvest the resources of every employee.”
During the coming year until 11 December 2012 Starco will celebrate its anniversary throughout the entire group with a number of activities, including receptions for employees and customers, special events and seminars covering new products and application initiatives, as well as the gradual rollout of the Starco webshop – an initiative that will integrate the company’s product catalogue with its new enterprise resource platform – an IT system that Starco says will ensure its logistics and customer service continues to be second-to-none as the company continues its global expansion.
