Research into China tyre label underway
At the Lanxess Rubber Day China, held in Beijing on 2 December, Jiang Jian from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology informed delegates that preparations for a Chinese tyre label are already underway. “With regard to potential guidelines for tyre labelling in China, we are comparing the stipulated standards with the present conditions. We have already made a start with research in this area.”
Jiang added that the ministry encourages the China’s tyre manufacturing industry to “operate in a green manner” and said manufacturers also take global standards into account: “China’s tyre industry is highly dependent on exports, and for this reason we stipulate that the tyre manufacturers already step up to the challenge of adhering to indirect guidelines such as those in place in the EU – and this is something they are more than capable of.”
Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber vice-president Ge Guorong told Rubber Day China delegates that “mandatory tyre labelling in China is just a matter of time. However, it must happen on a step-by-step basis – beginning with simple regulations. The main thing is that we actually take the first step in this direction and then continue to improve more and more.”
