Former Cooper Albany workers back on the job
Workers made redundant in 2009 when Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. closed its plant in Albany, Georgia are back at work with the company, Tire Review reports. According to news from Albany television station WALB-TV, the ex-Albany employees were among a group of temporary workers Cooper hired to operate its Findlay plant.
Van loads of temporary workers began arriving at the Findlay plant on 5 December, driving past picketing USW Local 207 workers carrying signs with such statements as “Corporate Greed = No Christmas.” Meanwhile, the union disputes Cooper claims that contract talks are at an impasse. USW Local 207 leaders don’t believe that is the case, and also dispute Cooper claims that they are not giving their membership “a clear picture of how negotiations are going,” according to WFIN radio in Findlay.
