Porsche fits 19” Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 to new 911
Goodyear has announced that its Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 tyre will be fitted as original equipment to Porsche’s new 911 Carrera 2. The tyre, which recently won the Auto Express 2011 tyre test, will be supplied in the sizes 235/40ZR 19 (front) and 285/35ZR 19 (rear). Goodyear remarks that tyre choice on the new 911 is vital, due to its rear engine configuration. The traction improvements yielded require the rear tyres to transfer 350 break horsepower to the tarmac; Goodyear says its Eagle F1A2 will meet this need through its “solid performance and quality credentials”.
“The control and braking performance of the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2, demonstrated in both magazine other benchmarking tests, is a critical factor for the demanding drivers of sportscars such as the Porsche 911”, states Eduardo Garrido, marketing manager at Goodyear. “On top Goodyear’s FuelSaving Technology helps drivers reduce overall fuel consumption while ActiveBraking increases road contact during braking, thereby delivering significantly shorter braking distances on both dry and wet roads.”
In addition to its performance characteristics, the 911 Carrera 2 was designed to meet lower carbon dioxide emission requirements; therefore the company’s FuelSaving Technology informed Porsche’s decision to award the contract to the tyre. The technology is driven by reduced tyre weight and a new ‘high surface’ silica grade that contributes to reduced heat generation, lowering the rolling resistance. ActiveBraking Technology uses three dimensional block design within the tyre tread to increase contact with the road under braking.
