Point S enters American market
Tyre dealer network point S has announced its entrance into the American market at an official event on 1 November at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where the company is exhibiting for the first time. US collective The Independent Tire Dealers Group, LLC (ITDG) has signed a partnership with point S, stepping up the group’s international development onto a new continent. Following its entrance into Turkey earlier this month, the network is now present in 21 countries in Europe with over 2,000 depots.
A Point S statement says that it has a similar business model and culture to ITDG’s, “which will allow the partners to make the most of synergies in various areas such as the usage of the point S retail concepts, development of proprietary lines, joint sourcing or sharing of best practices.”
Michael Cox, president & CEO of ITDG, stated: “We are excited about joining forces with the point S organization. Over the past several years the relationship between ITDG and point S has evolved to where we realized the need to take advantage of the synergies between the two companies”. Cox added, “point S management and their partnering countries realize the importance of the independent tyre dealer…and the ability for them to maintain that independency. ITDG shares that vision and looks forward to a mutually rewarding relationship”.
The statement also pointed out that it was confirming the prediction of Jürgen Benz, point S development managing director, who declared in the press in April 2011: “I am firmly convinced that the first Point S flags will soon flutter in North America”.
The Independent Tire Dealers Group, LLC (ITDG), has been implemented nationwide in the United States, joining the point S international network. ITDG is one of the largest buying groups operating in the United States today. It was established in 1994 as a localised purchasing group in California and quickly expanded into other American markets. The group has more than doubled its size in the past eight years and currently has over 350 member locations and conducts business in 27 states. ITDG membership consists of over 120 independent entrepreneurs collectively approaching an estimated $900 million in annualised sales.
