Hankook launches second-generation enfren
As Hankook Tire’s vice president, Pae Ho-youl, recently said, green tyres will be a tyre industry “keyword” in the coming years. It is thus no surprise that the company unveiled a new product at the SEMA show in the US. During the trade fair Hankook Tire America unveiled the second-generation enfren eco, a product it says was “specifically designed for fuel efficient and hybrid vehicles and offers consumers an energy saving, low rolling resistance replacement tyre with all-season performance.”
“Rising fuel costs and a heightened interest in the preservation of our environment are rapidly becoming more important to consumers,” said Soo Il Lee, President, Hankook Tire America. “Our new enfren eco will give consumers a choice when it comes to replacement tires that focus on improved vehicle fuel economy and the environment.”
The new tyre is the first enfren sold in the US; the range was first introduced into the Korean domestic market in 2008, followed by its launch in Australia and Japan a year later and China in 2010. this all-new enfren eco is said to offer 18 per cent lower rolling resistance than its predecessor thanks to its high silica tread compound; its tread pattern also features a solid centre rib allows intended to reduce rolling resistance and enhance steering.
US motorists will be the first to experience the new tyre, with introductions in other markets to follow. The second-generation enfren eco will be available to US consumers in five sizes beginning in the first quarter of 2012, followed by three additional sizes in the second quarter. The initial first quarter 2012 sizes include 185/65R15H, 195/60R15H, 195/65R15H, 215/60R16H and 205/55R16H. The second quarter 2012 additions to the enfren eco line-up include sizes 195/55R16V, 215/45R17V and 205/65R16H.
