Car transporter signs Goodyear tyre supply deal
Goodyear has announced the first fleet deal involving its new 275/70R22.5 Marathon LHT II trailer tyre. One of the largest car transporter companies in the UK, ECM Ltd, fit the tyre to one of its vehicles at a 25 November event in Carlisle to mark the deal. ECM Ltd has an existing partnership with TruckForce, Goodyear’s truck tyre service and breakdown assistance support network. The tyre has been specifically introduced to the Goodyear range for ECM, with the product to be made available to the wider market later. Robert Mason, Goodyear’s regional business manager said: “I am delighted that we are able to strengthen the partnership that we have maintained with ECM Ltd over the last eight years.
“Due to the extremely heavy nature of a vehicle delivery service, few tyre manufacturers have successfully produced a tyre which can function efficiently for this particular service provision, particularly not to the premium standard for which Goodyear is known.”
The Marathon LHT II is the latest generation of trailer tyres for long haul operations; the manufacturer says the tyre “significantly reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions” thanks to low rolling resistance. It also boasts improved wet grip and shorter stopping distances, increased mileage and low noise; the tyre is the newest member of Goodyear’s Max Technology FuelMax family.
Paul Rymer, ECM Ltd’s fleet workshops & maintenance manager said: “ECM has worked with both Goodyear and TruckForce for many years and the partnership has given mutual benefits to both companies in that time. The improved tyre life, increased mileages and reduced road side call outs is a result of improved inspection, service levels and good tyre management.
“The tyres on car transporter vehicles are very specific to the needs of our industry. A low profile is required to reduce travelling height but high load and speed ratings are needed to carry maximum capacity. We have worked hard as a partnership to get the 275/70R22.5 LHT II to become a production tyre in the Goodyear range, as we feel that it’s an ideal tyre size to meet the demands of car transportation in the UK. This has now come to fruition and we are pleased to see the first tyres running in our fleet.”
