Tyre maintenance recruits the next generation of fitters
It isn’t easy attracting new staff to the world of commercial tyre fitting; indeed both leading and independent service providers report finding it difficult to recruit young, enthusiastic candidates. But for its part Tyre Maintenance is committing to partner with one of the UK’s leading training organisations, Remit (Retail Motor Industry Training).
Through a structured apprenticeship, Tyre Maintenance is employing four fitters on an 18 month contract. During that time the apprentices will be fully inducted in all in-house processes and systems including health and safety. Comprehensive training on all aspects of industry operations will be supported by Remit, where the candidates will also learn through day or block release and be able to gain recognised industry qualifications (NVQ and Technical Certificate) at the end of their course/contract.
In addition to improving opportunities to recruit quality, skilled personnel, other key benefits include the development of well trained, well-motivated staff and increased productivity through better trained technicians. It also strongly demonstrates, to both existing employees and competitors alike, Tyre Maintenance’s commitment to staff development. “Through this partnership we are looking to the youth of today to continue to deliver a high level of quality service to our customers in the future”, comments Paul Fields, director, Tyre Maintenance Ltd.
Steve Yardley, Remit’s chief operating officer, welcomes the partnership with Tyre Maintenance. “A quality apprenticeship programme of this type not only benefits the employer and the apprentices involved but is key to Remits ongoing work in raising the level of service that the UK motor industry is able to provide.”
