Pirelli thanks customers for Tyre Manufacturer of the Year TAFF award

Pirelli has thanked customers and staff after being named Tyre Manufacturer of the Year at the National Tyre Distributors Association’s 2011 Tyre and Fast Fit (TAFF) Awards. Dominic Sandivasci, managing director of Pirelli UK commented: “We are delighted to receive this prestigious award which recognizes the hard work and effort of the entire Pirelli team in delivering the premium products and services demanded and deserved by the UK industry. I am extremely proud of our UK team for their contribution towards this prestigious accolade, and would like to place on record our grateful thanks and appreciation to everyone who voted for us.”

Pirelli UK’s Burton-on-Trent base was also recently nominated as ‘best factory’ by a panel of Pirelli’s senior managers, beating 27 other Pirelli factories worldwide to clinch the prestigious award. The key industrial parameters measured for the Pirelli award included health and safety, efficiency, delivery, waste, cost and productivity.

The Burton plant, which has used Pirelli’s ground-breaking MIRS (Modular Integrated Robotised System) production line since 2001, makes mostly the firm’s P Zero run-flat. But one of the most significant events for Pirelli this year was the launch of the Cinturato P1 tyre: a product that is focussed on efficiency and the environment. This tyre has reduced rolling resistance to enhance fuel economy. The elimination of highly aromatic oils has also reduced the impact on the environment.

2011 also saw Pirelli Tyres entering their first season of a three-year contract to supply tyres to Formula One: one of the most popular sports in the world that is watched by a global television audience of more than 500 million people. Pirelli also supply the GP2 and GP3 series as well, which are the feeder categories to Formula One.
