MRF considering international, including European, acquisition options
MRF Ltd is reportedly considering a number of overseas acquisitions options. According to various Indian news reports, top of the list are tyre plants and rubber plantations in moves that will form part of the company’s global expansion plans.
The reports were published in a flurry after MRF chairman K M Mammen reportedly told journalists that MRF is looking at acquiring “existing tyre plants and rubber plantations in Europe, China and South East Asia for expanding overseas.”
While the potential acquisitions are intended to support company growth and to improve the margins, no further details of how many purchases are planned, how much will be invested or exactly what or where have been released.
MRF currently generates 10 per cent of its revenues from exports to 65 countries. According to New Kerala the company is mulling over the option of acquiring or leasing a 100,000 hectare rubber plantation in South East Asia.
