Hankook previews maiden DTM season closer
Hankook’s maiden DTM season as tyre supplier got underway in May of this year at Hockenheim near the Hardtwald Forest, and it comes to an end at the same venue this weekend. Hankook says the track’s varied characteristics offer everything that makes racing so attractive: high-speed straights follow many narrow and wide, slow and fast corners.
The particular track lay-out requires a flexible car set-up from the teams, the manufacturer’s preview continues. In the slow Motodrome section, where the track twists amidst the grandstands, much grip and a good balance are required. On the other hand, the long and sweeping Parabolica, an ultra-fast left-hand corner, allows for top speeds of around 260kmh. The hairpin provides good opportunities for overtaking. Anyone who slides too much to the outside under braking on the bumpy surface can easily be overtaken by other drivers.
The high kerbstones are usually run over at top speed, posing a challenge for tyres’ construction. In the season-opening round, a little bit less than half a year ago, Hankook says its Ventus slick tyres “masterfully dealt with this challenge”.
