Bipaver “very uncomfortable” about truck racing retread ban
The European retreading organisation Bipaver states it feels “very uncomfortable” regarding a decision taken by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile to go ahead with its ban on the use of retreaded tyres in its Racing Trucks Technical Regulation. On October 6, Bipaver secretary general, Ruud J.L. Spuijbroek, outlined the European retreading organisation’s concerns in a letter to the FIA secretary general for sport, Pierre de Coninck.
“Bipaver stipulated factually in their earlier comments and letters, that with this decision FIA excludes an important contribution to both the lifecycle of truck tyres, respectively the reduction of CO2 emission,” Spuijbroek stated. “We feel than an international respected body as FIA should carry this responsibility and take their exemplary role in promoting the use of retreaded truck tyres. A missed opportunity.”
The initial draft of the FIA regulation only ruled out the fitment of retreads to steering axles; this was later changed to a blunt “retreaded tyres are not allowed.”
