Jaguar investing £350 million in new Wolverhampton engine plant
Just over two weeks after reports surfaced that the UK government was targeting automotive suppliers for British manufacturing investment, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced plans to build a new £350 million engine plant in Wolverhampton. According to reports, the new factory will create around 750 skilled jobs to serve demand from Asia.
The Sunday Telegraph reported that the deal was finalised after securing financial support from the government. According to the reports, the coalition government has identified the car industry as “crucial” to its recovery plans and has offered around £10 million of support for the plant.
The plant will reportedly be based at the i54 business park in Wolverhampton, which has been designated an enterprise zone. It is likely to take around two years to build and some reports optimistically suggest eventually the site could employ up to 2,000 workers.
