Cooper predicts another bumper year for winter tyres
Following two harsh UK winters, Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is predicting a further move towards cold weather tyres this year, and a continued increase in the related sales of tyres designed to perform at optimum level at temperatures of less than 7 degrees Celsius. Cooper reports that it is working closely with tyre dealers to be ready for the surge in demand and will extend production of certain tyre lines to help meet these needs.
Julian Baldwin, managing director of Cooper Tire Europe, said: “Whereas in central Europe and Scandinavia, it is already commonplace for drivers to fit winter tyres in October and use them until Spring arrives in March, here in the UK there is still some resistance to the additional cost and hassle this causes.
“However, drivers in the UK are definitely coming around to the benefits of winter tyres and we are seeing more people prepared to make the initial outlay on products. Not only do winter tyres have the ability to keep people mobile in very harsh weather conditions but also the safety benefits of winter tyres are proven.”
Cooper says it has a focused list of improved winter tyres which provides a better offering for both trade and consumer as soon as the temperature drops.
