Avon-shod Caterham breaks donut world record
Avon Tyres’ niche CR500 product has helped long-time partner Caterham Cars and stunt driver Terry Grant set a new Guinness World Record for the number of donuts completed in one go, spinning a 150bhp Caterham Roadsport consecutively 566 times. Having seen his own previous record of 161 donuts beaten on Sunday, 4 September by one of Caterham’s rival sportscar manufacturers at 283, Grant was determined to reclaim his place at the top of the Guinness World Record table.
Caterham’s Roadsport, shod with Avon’s durable CR500 rubber, was chosen for Grant’s latest attempt, made less than 24 hours after the rival firm set its benchmark. Grant said the 566-donut effort went seamlessly, thanks in large part to the rear tyres on the car, which were spinning constantly on the tarmac for a full 40 minutes.
“The car and the tyres were all perfect,” he beamed. “It got a bit monotonous towards the end of the attempt but everything worked perfectly. If we’d needed to, I reckon we could have done 1000 donuts today.” Having filed the necessary papers and video evidence with Guinness regarding the attempt, Grant expects official confirmation of the new world record in the coming weeks.
