Stapleton’s aims to deliver cost-effective winter and all-season tyres
In this country the majority of motorists are not in the habit of fitting winter tyres at the end of autumn as they do in most other Northern European countries. A TyreSafe survey conducted last year showed that while 54 per cent of UK drivers felt that they were less safe when driving in winter, only a tiny fraction of them – just 3 per cent – actually took the precaution of fitting winter tyres. Admittedly, winter tyres are recommended, if not compulsory by law, across much of the continent – but the fact that they are not legally required here should not lead consumers to think they’re any less necessary – or any less valuable as a contribution to road safety.
On the contrary, once the mercury falls below 7°C, they offer far better grip in both wet and dry conditions – and since last winter was the coldest the UK’s seen for some 30 years, UK drivers are experiencing extreme winter driving conditions. Stapleton’s view is that as well as improving road safety, winter tyres also create an opportunity for tyre retailers to “recommend a more suitable product to their customers during the winter months – thus improving customer satisfaction levels.”
As the UK’s largest tyre distributor, Stapleton’s says it can help retailers capitalise on the winter tyre season by providing a comprehensive range of winter and all-season tyres, covering the majority of the PCR, UHP, van and 4×4/SUV segments. With a wide range of premium brands available, as well as exclusive brands Nexen and Matador, Stapleton’s really does have a winter tyre suitable for every retailer in every price bracket.
A case in point is the Matador range of quality mid-range winter tyres, whose 80-year pedigree in tyre innovation is said to assure cost-effective cold weather performance and safety for all vehicle types – with the Matador MP 58 Silika and MP 59 Nordicca touring winter tyres for passenger cars as well as the specialist MPS 520 Nordicca Winter Van tyres and MP 91 Nordicca 4×4 Winter tyres.
Offered with a lifetime warranty, Stapleton’s also distributes the Nexen range, offering a comprehensive number of winter fitments for cars with the Eurowin pattern, Winguard for Vans, Win SUV for 4×4’s and the WG Sport for UHP vehicles. All patterns will be available from Stapleton’s from October, although retailers are encouraged to place orders early to avoid disappointment last year the company reported that demand exceeded supplied several times over.
An all-season offering
Aware that in a difficult economic climate retailers may find it tough convincing customers to invest in two sets of tyres, Stapleton’s offers another solution: Quadraxer – the all-season tyre from Kleber, which is manufactured by Michelin and is a leading European brand in its own right. With good snow traction, efficient braking on icy roads, excellent handling, wet and dry road braking and aquaplaning resistance, Quadraxer is specifically designed for the small-to-medium car driver who doesn’t want to buy separate sets of tyres for summer and winter conditions – but who does want ‘peace of mind, whatever the season’.
“We believe our winter tyre investment gives retailers a real advantage by enabling them to offer their customers a genuine and affordable improvement in road safety. Our full range of winter tyres is available nationwide on a twice-a-day, same-day, or next-day delivery basis,” said Stephen Childs, Stapleton’s head of range planning and marketing.
