Michelin launches Bibsteel range for skid steer loaders
Michelin has announced the introduction of its new range of compact line radial tyres. The initial BibSteel range comprises an all-terrain and a hard-surface tyre for off-road and asphalt and other hard surfaces use respectively. Michelin says the tyres are designed to increase the productivity of skid steer loaders used on building and construction sites, as well as on highways maintenance operations.
Rob Beddis, commercial director of the Michelin Agricultural division – responsible for the company’s compact line tyres – says: “The new BibSteel All-Terrain and Hard-Surface radials feature steel casings and steel belts for outstanding puncture resistance compared with the less-durable cross-ply tyres used by over 90 per cent of this market.
“They have been designed especially for compact construction machines, using the same all-steel casing found in Michelin’s truck and earthmover tyres. This ensures they will provide superior performance and a longer tread life for skid steer loaders, whilst delivering exceptional operator comfort.”
Michelin says its all-steel casing construction is unique in this sector, allowing the tyres to offer better abrasion, puncture and impact resistance – making them ideal for use on debris-strewn sites. The manufacturer expects the BibSteel All-Terrain fitment to account for the majority of its sales into the UK and Irish compact construction sector. The company’s own trials in North America have demonstrated that this tyre offers a 12 per cent increase in traction and up to an 85 per cent increase in tyre life compared with the leading cross-ply fitment.
The BibSteel Hard-Surface will replace Michelin’s Stabil’X XZSL radial fitment and has been constructed to deliver all of the same features as the BibSteel All-Terrain, but with a tread designed specifically to provide improved performance and manoeuvrability on hard and smooth surfaces.
The full range will include BibSteel All-Terrain tyres in the following sizes: 215/70 R 15, 265/70 R 16.5 and 305/70 R 16.5 sizes. The BibSteel Hard-Surface will be available in 265/70 R 16.5 and a 305/70 R 16.5 sizes.
