Marangoni launches three winter precured tread range extensions
Marangoni has announced the launch of three new precured tread lines: the RDG101 ring for series 70 and 80 designed for central European climates and adding features to the RDG100; the RSY397 ring for long distances in extreme conditions in two new sizes; and the MS9 special PRL pattern for Scandinavian countries.
The RDG101 pattern, designed for use on drive axles on vehicles that travel on regional, national and international routes, it is suggested as a new version of the tried-and-tested RDG100. The RDG101 adds bi-directionality and removes wings from the tread.
The pattern is all-season and multipurpose, featuring a wide footprint to make it easier to adapt to continuous changes in the weather and road conditions during operation. The “interlock” siping on the tread blocks improves control on wet, snow-covered and icy surfaces. This modern dimensional siping: together with an increased tread depth, gives the tread a high resistance to tearing and very regular tread wear.
The RSY397 line for applications in extreme winter conditions, successfully introduced last winter, has been extended with two new sizes: 275/70R22.5 and 315/70R22.5. The line is specifically designed for use on drive axles fitted on vehicles at the start of winter and then used continuously throughout the year in their first phase of life. The tyre has an aggressive pattern that increases safety in extreme conditions; as the tread wears, it takes on the characteristics of an all-position pattern for the remainder of the yearly cycle. It features deep grooves and a wide footprint with semi-rounded shoulders to improve mileage and stability. It has special siping to improve control on wet, snow-covered and icy surfaces. The profile is approved by Yokohama.
Completing the winter range is a special profile, the MS9, used in Nordic countries. This is a modern, studdable M+S winter tread, featuring improved traction as a result of using numerous transversal grooves. The tyres are designed to be fitted in autumn to get maximum mileage.
Marangoni says all these profiles are made using high performance compounds suitable for low temperatures. Their main advantages include better rebound at low temperatures and reduced rolling resistance,, as well as longer tread rubber life in stressful conditions. HP compounds also allow the tyre to work at lower temperatures, helping to reduce casing fatigue and increase life.
The majority of the patterns have been created in Ringtread versions, highlighting the grip and traction properties of the siped profiles thanks to perfectly circular moulding, Marangoni concludes.
